“Dark Venice”: a mystical photo cycle by Alessandro Cancian

The legendary Russian rock musician Edmund shklyarsky claimed that “the most ringing cry is silence, the brightest light is night”. Alessandro Cancian, a talented photographer from Toronto, recently presented a series of photos “Dark Venice”, in which the beautiful Italian city is plunged into darkness… it would Seem that you can distinguish? But no, in the absence of lights, it looks completely different.

We are so used to the flickering of hundreds of lights, to colorful storefronts and brightly lit streets, that we simply do not imagine what cities could look like without this artificial tinsel. In the dark, the smallest, barely noticeable details take on an almost mystical significance, and the luxurious architecture looks intriguing.

Photographer Alessandro Cancian managed to create an extraordinary series of works imbued with romance and mysticism. The city on the water immediately transformed, becoming the abode of angels and demons, dreams and fears, beauty and frightening unknown.
